Tobacco is natural. Vitamin supplements are artificial. Hemlock is natural. All the species of brassica (cabbage, Brussels sprout, bok choi, cauliflower, broccoli, kale, turnip, rutabaga, etc) are the result of selective breeding, that is, they are genetically modified organisms, entirely artificial in origin.
Make of this what you will.
Some will argue selective breeding is not the same as "genetic modification", but that is nonsense. There is no difference between genes modified through selective breeding and those modified in a lab. It is only anti-science hysteria (and the natural-artificial nonsense distinction) that makes one a "GMO" and the other a candidate for an "organic" label. Sorry, but genes are genes, and everything on earth has been modified to some degree, and food crops more than most.
